Here’s what we can help with:

If you have ever been asked, (or asked yourself) any of the following questions, we can help provide the answers. We can match your nonprofit with a volunteer lawyer who can help with your specific legal issues. We also provide free workshops that address many of these and other important legal issues nonprofits face.

  • What should be included in an employee handbook for our small nonprofit?
  • Can we engage in lobbying for specific legislation?
  • What are the potential liabilities of board members?
  • Are our workers independent contractors or employees?  And why does that matter?
  • Should we register our trademark?
  • Our nonprofit is tax-exempt, so do I need to pay this property tax bill?
  • Are we subject to HIPAA, and if so, how to we comply?
  • What kinds of background checks can we perform on volunteers or employees?
  • What’s the difference between a merger, an affiliation, and a joint venture?
  • If we generate income from a business venture, is it taxable?
  • Can our volunteers be sued?
  • What harassment training should employees and volunteer receive?
  • We don’t need all our office rental space, can we sublet it?
  • What business legal or transactional questions should my nonprofit even ask?
